Privacy Policy

How PathPin accesses, uses, stores, shares, and deletes information in the Android app.

Effective 11 August 2026

PathPin is designed to keep your navigation information private and stored locally. This Privacy Policy applies to the PathPin Android application and the PathPin website at pathpin.site.

1. Information used by the app

PathPin may access precise or approximate device location, compass readings, motion sensor readings, and available pressure or altitude readings. These inputs are used to save Pins, record Routes, estimate movement, display GPS quality, and provide return guidance.

When you create a Route, PathPin may store GPS breadcrumbs, tagged Spot names, step estimates, headings, and optional voice notes on your device.

2. Location information

Location is used to save Pins and available Route breadcrumbs, calculate distance and bearing, and help you join or follow a recorded Route. During an active recording or return session, PathPin may continue using location while the app is not visible so that the user-started journey can continue. Android displays an ongoing notification during this session.

The PathPin developer does not receive your live location, saved coordinates, Pins, Routes, or breadcrumbs through the app.

3. Microphone and speech recognition

Microphone access is used only after you choose to record an optional voice note. Voice-note files are stored locally in the app's private storage.

If you choose speech-to-text, audio may be processed by the speech recognition service configured on your Android device. That service is provided by a third party and operates under its own privacy policy. PathPin receives the resulting text.

4. Sharing

PathPin sends coordinates outside the app only when you deliberately choose Share. Android then lets you select a receiving app, such as a messaging or email app. The selected app handles the shared information under its own terms and privacy practices.

5. Developer collection and third parties

This release of PathPin does not require a PathPin account and does not include advertising or developer-operated analytics. The developer does not operate a server that receives your saved Pins, Routes, voice notes, or live location from the app.

The app relies on Android system capabilities, including location and optional speech recognition. Their operation may involve services supplied by your device manufacturer, operating system provider, mobile network, or selected speech provider.

6. Local storage, backup, retention, and deletion

PathPin stores app data in Android private app storage. Android cloud backup and device-transfer backup are disabled for PathPin.

Your data remains until you delete an individual Pin or Route, select More → Privacy & local data → Delete all local data, clear the app's storage through Android settings, or uninstall PathPin. Deletion from the app removes the locally stored Pins, Routes, breadcrumbs, Route drafts, and voice-note files covered by that action.

7. Website information

The PathPin website is a static informational website. It does not provide user accounts or an embedded contact form. If you email support, your email provider and the PathPin support mailbox process the information you choose to include so that we can respond.

Hostinger provides website hosting and may process routine server information such as IP address, request time, requested page, browser information, and security logs as part of hosting, reliability, and abuse prevention.

8. Security

PathPin uses Android private app storage and avoids unnecessary developer-side collection. However, no device, storage method, transmission, or software can be guaranteed completely secure. Protect access to your device and do not include sensitive personal information in Spot names or support emails unless necessary.

9. Children

PathPin is not directed specifically to children and the developer does not knowingly collect children's personal information through the app.

10. Navigation limitations

Location, compass, motion, and altitude readings can be inaccurate. PathPin is a return aid and must not be used as the only emergency, wilderness, or life-safety navigation method. See the Safety page for important limitations.

11. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when PathPin's features, service providers, or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when an updated policy is published.

12. Contact

For privacy questions, contact PathPin at support@pathpin.site.

No account deletion request is required for this release: PathPin does not create an online PathPin account. App data can be deleted directly from the device as described above.
